Manchester City announced on Friday that it
has signed Portuguese midfielder Bernardo
Silva from Ligue 1 champions Monaco.
Silva will officially join Man City on a five-year
contract on July 1.
The fee that City paid for Silva is reportedly
£43 million ($55 million), per the Manchester
Evening News . This would possibly make the
22-year-old the third most-expensive
Portuguese player of all-time behind Luis Figo
and Cristiano Ronaldo, who were both signed
by Real Madrid for, at the time, world-record
sums.
The Portugal international was integral to
Monaco’s title-winning season in France and
in its run to the Champions League semifinals.
Silva recorded eight goals and nine assists in
37 league appearances this season. He
registered an additional two goals and one
assists in 11 European games as well.
Silva is expected to be one of many players
who will leave Monaco this summer. The likes
of Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy, Fabinho
and Tiemoue Bakayoko are all linked with
moves away from the club.
